What to do in Yerevan : Tips, places, hotels and restaurants
The capital of Armenia, Yerevan has more than one million inhabitants. Founded in the 8th Century BC, the city is located to the west of the country, at almost a thousand metres altitude, dominated by Mount Ararat. Now experiencing consistent growth, it is becoming increasingly westernised after a turbulent and painful history. The city has a continental climate, with cold winters and hot, dry summers. Since the beginning of the third millennium, the city is trying to promote tourism and create the necessary infrastructure for its development. The city has a certain charm due to the pink colour of its stones, its many gardens and the fact that it extends over seven hills. You will find parks and fountains, cafes and statues and do not miss a visit to the Opera House and the beautiful Cathedral, the monument of Mother Armenia, as well as numerous monuments from the Soviet era. Several museums are also worth a visit, such as the National Gallery of Armenia, the Armenian Genocide Museum, and the Matenadaran or Parajanov Museum. Families will enjoy the zoo and the Waterworld water park. The subway and trams facilitate movement around the city, which is alsoserved by an international airport.
