What to do in Lome : Tips, places, hotels and restaurants
Capital of Togo, Lomé has a little over 700,000 inhabitants. A border town, it shows both traditional African culture and rapid modernization. Its equatorial climate is moderated by the oceanic influence and makes it a very pleasant city to visit. In the city centre you will find buildings with colonial architecture as the Governors Palace and the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, you can stroll in the Grand Exchange which is also the heart of the city as is so often in Africa, discover the residential neighbourhood west of the city with its official buildings and wide avenues, and the Togo National Museum, home to many handicrafts collections. Do not miss the Fetish market where they sell good luck charms and amulets. On the coast, you can watch the fishermen with their boats, a peaceful scene that makes a striking comparison with the bustling city centre. You can move easily around the city with taxis/motorcycles that will take you anywhere. You can also enjoy the sandy beach lined with coconut trees. The city also offers modern hotels, numerous restaurants and various nightclubs that make it come alive at night as well as during the day.
