What to do in Victoria : Tips, places, hotels and restaurants
Victoria is located on the island of Mahé, the largest island of the Seychelles archipelago. The capital of the Seychelles, it is also the most populous city with 25,000 inhabitants, a third of the entire local population. The island itself is 150 kilometers long and about 25 kilometres wide, in addition to its administrative and economic importance Mahé is also popular with visitors due to its more than 70 paradisiacal beaches. Victoria is a charming seaside town, dominated by granite cliffs and refreshed by lush vegetation. It is served by an international airport. The port is also of major importance of the town with its tuna fishing, and resulting canning industry, which is a major economic sector of the island, as is tourism. Visitors may enjoy tracing the city’s ever present colonial past with a walk through the city, strolling through the Market Street, in the centre, and enjoying the colours and exotic smells emanating from the mangoes, pineapple and papaya, admire the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception and its impressive bell tower and discover the clock tower, a small reproduction of Big Ben, as well as Kaz Zanana, a beautiful refurbished Creole house that exhibits paintings of the artist George Camille, Mamelles castle, and the Botanical Gardens. To summarise: Very friendly people and an exhilarating place to visit, a simple and attractive town, located in a dream setting.
