French town of Lorraine, in the east, Thionville has about 40 000 inhabitants. It has a long and eventful history. Visitors will discover a city whose course has not changed since the Middle Ages, and has a great architectural variety. You will see the tower of the Counts of Luxembourg; the tower Flea, which is housed an archaeological museum and lapidary Paleolithic to the Renaissance; Convent of the Poor Clares; Fort Guentrange, fortification built by the Germans in 1899; Saint Maximin church, listed building, and beautiful organ; the belfry of the 14th century; bridges, locks and bridge-covered; the door of Saarlouis, which dates from 1746; Volkrange Castle, the 13th century, and its magnificent park of 30 hectares; the Altar of the Fatherland, neoclassical obelisk, symbol of the Revolution. You can also visit some museums like the Musée Lorrain of Railway or halt in attractive gardens such as Napoleon Park or the Park Wilson. the A30 is accessed from Thionville in Metz, Nancy by the A31 or Luxembourg, and the A4 from Paris or Strasbourg. One can also take the train, or plane landing at the nearest airport which is that of Luxembourg 40 km. For trips into town, there is a good network of buses and rental cars or bikes (conventional or electric).
