What to do in Shenyang : Tips, places, hotels and restaurants
The capital of the Chinese province of Liaoning, Shenyang has more than seven million inhabitants. The city experiences a humid temperate climate, continental in character, with strong temperature differences from one season to another, and it also has a monsoon season. An ancient city, it retains traces dating back more than 5,000 years. Nowadays you can admire the ancient Forbidden City of the Qing emperors, an ensemble of 300 buildings constructed around twenty courts over a vast area at the heart of the Shenhe quarter, and there is also the Zhaoling tomb in Beiling Park which is also the largest park of the city. The city is the setting for an ice sculpture festival attracting thousands of visitors every year. Metro and buses allow easy movement around the city which is a major rail hub for the country, and there is also an international airport. However, the city is more a huge business centre than a true tourist destination.
