What to do in Royan : Tips, places, hotels and restaurants
Located in Charente Maritime, west of France, Royan has about 18,000 inhabitants and is located by the sea, making it a well-known seaside resort on the Atlantic coast. Its sandy beaches, its marina and its modern buildings, are major benefits for the traveler who wants to explore the city. We first observe the Notre-Dame-de-Royan, in the style to the 1950s, which dominates the city silhouette of concrete. Then you can walk along the seafront promenade, lined with trees and gardens, as well as small shops and low buildings. In the center, the Central Market offers visitors the shape of giant seashell, and you will find near numerous bars, restaurants and various shops. You will probably also impressed by the Congress Palace, an austere modern building. The port is home to many yachts, but also an important fishing fleet. You will no doubt attracted by some of the Belle Epoque villas, typical of the seaside architecture of the late 19th century, where fantasy and imagination had pride of place, offering bell towers and steeples, turrets and gazebos, in more total freedom. Royan is accessed by the A10 (the trip is 100km to Bordeaux and Paris to 500), but also by train via the stations of Saintes, Niort and Angoulême. The nearest airport is in Rochefort-Saint-Agnant, which operates flights to Britain. For traveling in Royan, you will find bike paths, but also buses.
