What to do in Rouen : Tips, places, hotels and restaurants
Capital of the Normandy region in France, Rouen is crossed by the Seine and has just over 113 000 inhabitants. Holder of the label City of Art and History, Rouen has several important monuments like Notre Dame Cathedral, Gothic, with its high spire 151 meters, stunning stained glass windows and 70 statues. You can also admire the Saint-Ouen abbey; Gros Horloge in the eponymous street, city emblem, which is an astronomical clock overlooking an arch affixed to a belfry; financial office, Renaissance style, which today hosts the Tourist Office after serving Workshop Monet to paint his series of 11 paintings of "Cathedrals"; the Palace of Justice, the late Middle Ages, stunning blend of Gothic, Renaissance and Gothic; the aster St. Maclou and its beautiful timbered; the cozy square in the Old Market, part of the famous Hundred Years War and the death of Joan of Arc, with around Cross Joan of Arc on the site of its stake, the St. Joan church, and wood-framed houses. During your walks in the city you will find many old houses, or about 2,000 half-timbered houses. Many parks and gardens are also worth visiting, as the Botanical Gardens on the Left Bank and various museums may interest you: the Museum of Fine Arts with works by Delacroix, Géricault, Modigliani, Monet, Sisley; the National Museum of Education; Pierre Corneille museum in his birthplace. Two new cultural facilities have emerged in recent years in Rouen: the historial Joan of Arc which traces the history of the Maid and the Panorama XXL, unique in France, which exposes the giant panoramic works of artist Yadegar Asisi . We go to Rouen with two metro lines, buses and taxis, and bicycle paths are developing a system of bicycle sharing system. Rouen can be accessed by the A13 motorway which connects to Paris, or by train from Paris, Reims, Amiens and Lille. An airport is located 9 km east of the city.
