What to do in Nicosia : Tips, places, hotels and restaurants
The capital of Cyprus, Nicosia has just over 200,000 inhabitants. Divided in two between a Turkish state and a predominantly Greek Republic, the city is served by two international airports. It has a hot and dry climate in summer and mild winters, the best time to discover the city is in spring and autumn, particularly April. In the south you can visit the Venetian city walls, the shaded streets of the Laiki Yitonia neighbourhood and the Leventis museum which traces the history of the capital from ancient times until today, the Archaeological Museum of Cyprus, Museum of Byzantine Art with its beautiful collection of icons, and the Folk Art Museum. To the North, visit the Hagia Sophia Mosque, the Buyuk Han, a restored caravanserai (caravan stop) that has been transformed into an exhibition venue, the remains of the Lusignan palace and the Mevievi Tekke convent. For travelling around, taxis are widespread and quite economical.
