What to do in Montpellier : Tips, places, hotels and restaurants
City in southern France, Montpellier is 7 km from the Mediterranean and has just under 300 000, after an uninterrupted progression of its population since 1945. It enjoys its pleasant climate, its exceptional setting and intense cultural life. Students make up a little less than a third of its population. It is connected to Paris by TGV (3H30 journey), and has an airport that serves several European cities and the Maghreb. It also accesses the A9 motorway from Marseille or Spain, and the A75 from Clermont-Ferrand. In town, avoid the car and take the tram (4 lines), take a bike (160 km of bike stations) or bus. You can also visit the center of Montpellier by bicycle taxi! You will no doubt enjoy the historical center called the Shield, dating from the Middle Ages, and is still the heart of the city, you will discover the tower Babotte, which was an astronomical observatory, St. Peter's Cathedral with its porch unique and the remains of the adjoining cloister, the Saint-Clément aqueduct in the neighborhood of Arches, Arc de Triomphe above the entrance in the pleasant Peyrou Gardens, the place Saint-Roch church and surrounded by small terraces restaurant, the famous Place de la Comédie and its fountain topped the Three Graces, Foch Street and beautiful Haussmann buildings, home to the former Palace of Justice. Many cultural events throughout the year and we will mention a few: the Comedy of the Book end of May, the Montpellier Dance Festival dedicated to contemporary dance in July, the International Guitar in October, every Friday of the Estivales late June to early September.
