What to do in Metz : Tips, places, hotels and restaurants
Situated in the Moselle department in eastern France, Metz has just over 118 000 inhabitants and offers a rich history that especially shines in the variety of its architecture. Positioned at the crossroads of major routes in Europe, it is accessible by several highways from Paris, Nancy and Lyon, but also by train from Paris, Luxembourg or Germany, and by air landing at the airport of Metz-Nancy-Lorraine 20 km from the city center. To get around the city, there is a bus service and bike paths. Metz is animated throughout the year by various cultural and festive events: Chocolate Fair in February, Festival of Short Films in April, theater festival in May, Montgolfiades in September, or Christmas market in December, the second in terms of attendance after Strasbourg. Many sites deserve the visit of traveler: the stunning St. Stephen's Cathedral, with its high nave of 42 meters and 6,500 m2 of windows, some created by Chagall; the Pompidou center dedicated to contemporary art and its amazing architecture; the Golden Court Museum, bringing together a magnificent archaeological collection; opera theater built in 1738; Chapel of the Templars, the 12th century, between Romanesque and Gothic art; the beautiful Place Saint-Louis; cloister Récollets, simple and elegant; Roman Baths.
