Moroccan town in the Middle Atlas, Meknes is one of the four imperial cities of the country and has about 550,000 inhabitants. It is known for its architecture and cultural heritage, and has a rich history. You can visit several monuments and museums, starting with the medina is a must and you will immediately feel of the city; instead El Hedim you can admire Bab Mansour, beautifully decorated, and Dar Jamai Palace, which was the residence of the vizier in the 19th century, and where the Traditions Museum today; continue your visit with the Madrasa Bou Inania and the Kissaria covered market that existed here 700 years and where many working artisans; in the imperial city, you will find the mausoleum of Ismail Moukay, stables, granaries, the basin of Agdal, the Imperial Palace Dar El Makhzen; see also, the Nejjarine mosque, the Great Mosque with its 11 gates and 143 arcades, the Museum of the Rif pottery, garden Lahboul. To reach Meknes, one can take the road from Rabat, or train and plane since the town has a railway station and an airport. To move in the city, taxis are a convenient and affordable way.
