What to do in Marigot : Tips, places, hotels and restaurants
Largest city in the French part of the island of St. Martin, Marigot has just under 6,000 inhabitants. Located on the western coast of the island, it brings together key government services and benefits from its free port status to develop the luxury trade that attracts many tourists. Several sites worth visiting in the traveler stop in Marigot the lovely promenade along the waterfront; old Creole houses that remain in the center of the city, which have been restored; the shops run by Indians and Chinese with their varied and sometimes surprising products; the Republic Street with its facades of the 19th century, whose ground floor is built of stone and the first wooden floor, with a gallery decorated with friezes and an ornate balustrade; the market, with its fruit and fragrant herbs and its fragrant spices, colors, fresh fish, where you will also see a statue that honors women and a fresco painted by a local artist; the museum "On the Trail of the Arawaks" which traces the history of the island since the year 3200 BC; Fort Louis, built in 1789, and the former prison of the same period; the remains of Sugarbush Spring.
