Nowadays called Chennai, Madras is the capital of the state of Tamil Nadu in South India and has 4.5 million inhabitants. Well connected to other major Indian cities by road, air and rail, it also has a major port. Its beach, Marina Beach, is the second longest beach in the world, and one of its major assets. The city is also famous for its traditional cuisine and for being a cultural centre where Carnatic music and the classical dance called Bharata Natyam are taught. You can visit zoos and national parks, enjoy several amusement parks and admire the St. George Fort, the beautiful collection of bronze at the Government Museum, the Temple of Kapalishwara, and the beautiful all white St. Thomas Basilica.
