What to do in Kingston : Tips, places, hotels and restaurants
The Capital of Jamaica, Kingston is situated in the south east of the island. The home town of Bob Marley, the city has been notably marked by his musical influence and by Rastafarianism that promotes the return to African roots and the respect for nature, this is particularly pronounced in the poorer quarters. The historic city centre, home to the Bob Marley Museum, is close to the sea front. Places to visit include the local crafts market, the National Gallery, Devon House with its 19th Century colonial architecture, and Kingston Parish Church which has an impressive clock tower. There are also the Botanical Gardens, the Zoo and the Royal Vale, a magnificent house from the 17th Century. The beautiful beaches and music everywhere in the bars, buses, shops and numerous clubs etc will contribute to the relaxing, holiday mood. Numerous restaurants offer local specialities, particularly barbecues and sea food. Rent a four wheel drive and visit the Blue Mountains, or visit them on foot if you are feeling energetic. Enjoy a coffee at the Mavis Bank café, supposedly one of the best in the world, after visiting their factory.
