What to do in Gap (Alps) : Tips, places, hotels and restaurants
Situated in the French Hautes Alpes department, the city of Gap is a tourist crossroads along ‘Napoleon’s Route’. The city has a population of a little more than 35,000. At an altitude of 750 metres, it is at the heart of a conserved environment and enjoys sunshine for most of the year. Its historic past can be perceived through its architecture dating from the Middle Ages and its network of straight roads. You can visit a number of interesting places and sites such as the cathedral Notre Dame de l’Assumption, the statue of Baron Ladoucette, the Cordeliers church, the Departmental Museum and the Parc de la Pépinière, or simply just enjoy a walk along the old streets full of old world charm such as the Rue Carnot or the Rue Colonel Roux which is the oldest street in the city, lined with 18th Century buildings, pause at the Place Jean Marcellin or the Place Saint Arnaux. The surround areas should not be missed due to the beautiful natural surroundings, take a hike, cycle or go on horseback along one of the various circuits and visit the Balcons du Gapençais, play golf on the Bayard plain or practise climbing on Ceüse Mountain. Whatever type of activities you choose, you will find a great choice of accommodation available, from hotels to campsites, guest houses to cottages.
