Capital of Tajikistan, Dushanbe has slightly less than 800 000 inhabitants. Bathed by the Varzob, it is located to the west of the country, serviced by an international airport. There are a few tourist attractions, like the famous embroidery factory in gold thread; Firdusi the library with two million volumes and 800 manuscripts; the Museum of History and Ethnography; the Museum of Fine Arts; the statue of Sadriddin Ayni, Tajikistan a great writer; the Opera and Ballet Theatre with its colonnades; the air theater; the tea house with its architecture combining modernity and tradition, and its twisted columns full of grace and lightness; the botanical garden and park S.Aini; the Victory Park offers a beautiful panorama of the city. You can also stroll the streets lined with canals with their houses with large shaded terraces. In the vicinity, visit the gorges of Varzob and those of Romit and Nurek, the newest cities in the country, with its huge dam, or the Hissar mountains nearby, where you can admire the Fort Hissar 13th century but also hiking with many possible routes. To move in the city, buses and taxis are easy to find.
