What to do in Cuzco : Tips, places, hotels and restaurants
Town south-east of Peru, Cusco is built to 3500 meters in the middle of the Andes and has about 300 000 inhabitants. Ancient capital of the Incas, it has a rich cultural heritage through its many monuments and museums, and tourism today is its main economic activity. It is reached by an international airport. To get around town, there are buses and taxis, but many of the visits can be done on foot. The sights are many, but first you can be interested in the Plaza de Armas, the Cathedral and the Church of the Society of Jesus, then stroll the streets of San Blas, before go to the ruins of Sacsayhuaman, a 15th century fortress located 2 km from the city, perfectly fitting with its huge stone walls. During your ride in the city, you probably lucky to attend the songs and traditional dances, and buy fruit or vegetables in a market in the city. Do not miss to also visit the House of the Virgins of the Sun, the convent of Santo Domingo, the remains of the Temple of the Sun, the Inca Museum, the Museum of Pre-Columbian art, the ChocoMuseo, and the site of Qenko 6 km of the city, with its canals shaped maze. You will also enjoy the pleasant bustle of the city at night, and the delicious flavors of Peruvian cuisine in the various cafes and restaurants.
