What to do in Cherbourg : Tips, places, hotels and restaurants
Situated at the end of the Cotentin peninsula, Cherbourg is a French city with a population of around 40,000. Now an international pleasure port, it hosts a number of international nautical events. It is also a very pleasant tourist destination with many interesting places to visit including its Italian Theatre, numerous museums, Basilica, and the Chateau of Ravalet and the Sea City, the latter is one of the city’s highlights with a tourist, cultural and scientific complex dedicated to human sub-marine exploration and adventure. In Cherbourg there is also a market and numerous cafes and restaurants as well as its relaxing gardens, particularly Montebello Gardens and the Emmanuel Liais Park. Take a leisurely walk along the quays, along the pedestrian roads, or ’climb’ up the Roule to the parapet of the Fort where you can enjoy a panoramic view over the bay and the forts. One extra point, the City of Cherbourg organises free guided visits.
