Located in Savoy, the town of Chambéry has just over 58 000 inhabitants, and this population is young and rather cosmopolitan. Well placed compared to European capitals, she was named "European natural crossroads" or "the door of the Alps", and easily accessible by motorway from Paris, Marseilles, Geneva and Turin. The city is also served by train from Paris, Milan, Lyon or Geneva and Chambery-Savoie airport connects it to Britain, the Netherlands, Russia, Denmark and the Ireland. To move around Chambéry, there is a network of buses, and bike lanes very well appointed, but the city is small enough that you can explore on foot. You can enjoy a nice downtown and bright, with its hidden alleys behind the houses, typical of the city, forming a stunning maze, and sometimes lead to beautiful mansions or townhouses; the ancient castle of the Dukes of Savoy, the 13th century, today houses the prefecture and the General Council; the chime of 70 bells, which is the largest in Europe, located in the castle gardens; the Museum of Fine Arts, which has the second largest collection of paintings of France, with baroque works, or from Florentine schools, Sienese, Bolognese or Neapolitan; decorations painted in trompe l'oeil of the St. Francis Cathedral of Sales; the beautiful and imposing fountain of the Elephants; Charmettes garden, sunny and intoxicating fragrances.
