What to do in Castries : Tips, places, hotels and restaurants
Shopping center and the island's capital, Castries is also the most important port of the Antilles. Founded in 1650 by the French, the city is located north of the island and now has about 13 000 inhabitants. Found in the city a mixture of modern buildings, some colonial houses and traditional wooden huts, all built in part on the polders. You will discover some remarkable sites, such as the House of the Victorian Governor, the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, with its metal roof and frescoes by an artist from the neighborhood, two lighthouses, the rock of Tapion, Pointe the Vigie and the fortifications at the top of Morne Fortune, where you can kiss a pretty panorama. Dereck Walcott Square will offer a pleasant stop for a picnic, and you can walk to the market of Jeremiah Street to do your shopping.
