What to do in Bujumbura : Tips, places, hotels and restaurants
The capital of Burundi, Bujumbura has a population of around 800,000. A city that is undergoing intense modernisation, it has a population of diverse nationalities including Congolese, Rwandese, Indians, Belgians, Pakistanis and French. Previously a Belgian colony, one of its main attractions lies in its proximity to Lake Tanganyika and the presence of vegetation everywhere in the city which comes as a pleasant surprise to many visitors. The Central Market is definitely worth a visit, it has a surprising range of goods on offer. A visit to the Vivant Museum is also recommended; a historical village that shows a glimpse of the traditional homes, furniture and objects of the country. There is also the Mausoleum of Vugizo, the Unity Monument, and the Kiriri Campus to see, without forgetting the city’s lovely beaches.
