What to do in Arles : Tips, places, hotels and restaurants
French town of the Bouches-du-Rhone, in the South of the country, Arles is crossed by the Rhone, and the past of the city goes back more than 2500 years. Its history is legible thanks to many monuments, which date back to some of Antiquity, and tourism is one of its main activities. The city has a population of just over 50,000 and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You will be able to discover the narrow streets of the city center and the Roman amphitheater, the ancient theater, the Roman thermal baths of Constantine, and the Arles Antique Museum, which brings together collections from all over the city. You can also visit the Van Gogh Foundation, housed in a beautiful mansion, and its 1000 m2 exhibition dedicated to the Dutch painter and other contemporary artists. Arles also offers a very Mediterranean atmosphere through its small restaurants scattered in the old town and its releases of bulls at the time of the famous férias. In addition, several festive events punctuate the year and attract many visitors, such as, for example, the European nude photography festival in May, the Fêtes d'Arles in early July, the Roman Days at the end of August, or the Festival du Horse in September. You can reach Arles by the A54 from Marseille or by train, but you can also come by plane and land at Marignane airport (65 km away) or Nimes-Garons airport (25 km away) . To get around town, buses and taxis are the most convenient solutions.
