What to do in Antalya : Tips, places, hotels and restaurants
The tourist capital of the Turkish Mediterranean coastline, also called the Turkish Riviera, Antalya has around 800,000 inhabitants. Its old town is built against calcium cliffs that dominate the port and the Taurus mountain chain encircles it which provides a magnificent landscape. Antalya dates from 150 years BC and has been inhabited constantly since then. The city is sunny all year round and has a pleasant climate even in summer due to the sea breeze that cools the air. Visit the Temple of Apollo that dates back to city’s origins in the time of the Romans, also visit Hadrian’s gate made of marble, the Yivli Mosque with its unusual striated minaret, the ruins of a very old church dating from the 6th Century that was transformed into a mosque in the 7th Century, but don’t forget the nearby archaeological site of the old city of Phaselis. The quarter with the old port is also worth seeing together with the City Park and Botanical gardens where there are some lovely views. There is also a Museum that has a great collection of antiques, statues and an ethnological section. Antalya also has some lovely beaches to the west for your relaxation.
