What to do in Angers : Tips, places, hotels and restaurants
Located in the west of France, Angers is a city of the Loire Valley and has 150 000 inhabitants. The city is crossed by Maine. the A11 is accessed from Paris, or the TGV (Paris-Montparnasse), and an international airport makes some connections with London, Nice and Toulouse. For travel within the city, there is a network of cycle paths and a bike rental service, but you can also take the tram or bus. Angers has a real tourist attraction, with a rich heritage, complemented since 2010 by a theme park dedicated to plants, Terra Botanica. Labeled City of Art and History, Angers offers in its downtown beautiful medieval monuments, such as the Episcopal Palace, or Adam's house with wood sides, and beautiful mansions. There are also remarkable Renaissance buildings, such as Barrault home. The theater Alcazar demonstrates Art Nouveau architecture and Art Deco is represented by the blue house, with its mosaics of Isidore Odorico. Concerning the religious monuments, you can visit the abbey church of Ronceray, Saint Maurice Cathedral or St. Aubin tower. Do not overlook, eighteen parks and gardens that make up the city, especially with the botanical garden and the garden of the Mail, not to mention the arboretum park and its 1,500 species represented. We must also mention the cultural events throughout the year: the Anjou festival that comes immediately after the Avignon festival in terms of the theater; the Premiers Plans festival devoted to the cinema; Angers comic festival dedicated to comics. A must see, the Apocalypse tapestry, displayed at the heart of the castle, a masterpiece of medieval art of colossal proportions (106 meters long). The Museum of Fine Arts is a tour not to be missed.
