What to do in Amorgos : Tips, places, hotels and restaurants
Greek island located east of the Cyclades, Amorgos has just under two million inhabitants, and rises to 821 meters with Mount Krikellos. Because of its lack of water autonomy, it can not develop mass tourism, and is accessible only by boat (daily service from Athens but also Paros and Naxos). Its main landmark is the Monastery of Panagia Chozoviotissa, ancient Byzantine building from the 11th century on a cliff, 300 meters above the sea, with its chapel built in a rock hollow and its walls a whiteness contrasting with the rock. Below, the beautiful cove of Agia Anna amaze you with its gorgeous clear waters. You can also visit the two ports of the island, Katapola Egiali north and south, the first being more touristy, probably because of its beautiful beach, and serving as a starting point for many hikes. Egiali close to three small villages are a must see for their white streets crushed sun, Potamos, Tholaria and Langada. At Katapola, you will appreciate the calm and authenticity. Then you can discover Chora, which is the capital of the island. In the southern part of Amorgos you will find solar landscapes that served as backdrop to the film "The Big Blue". It is housed on the island mostly in the ports of Katapola and Aegiali.
