What to do in Chengdu : Tips, places, hotels and restaurants
Capital of Sichuan Province, Chengdu has more than 9 million inhabitants and is located in west-central China. It is served by an international airport, and also has four railway stations. The city is very active, is known for its many teahouses, pandas and quality of life. You can walk in the street Qintai Lu with its luxury shops and traditional architecture; discover in the Jinli street many craft shops and tea houses; admire the Qingyang Taoist temple and the Wenshu temple dedicated to the Wisdom Buddha with beautiful bas-reliefs; visit the Du Fu Thatched Cottage, former home of the great poet of the Tang Dynasty who lived in 759; the reserve for giant pandas, north of the city, where live free a score of these highly protected animals. There are also many parks in the city, as Cuihu Park and its three lakes where you can take a boat ride, or the People's Park in the center. To get around town, use both subway lines that run from north to south and from east to west, or buses and taxis. The city is also an excellent starting point to visit the Dujiangyan Irrigation System built 2000 years ago (60 km) or explore Mount Qingcheng.
